David de los Santos, the founder of the company, began printing shirts in 1982 in Seattle, Washington, USA. His primary customers were gift shops in the Seattle area catering to the tourist market.
In 1989, David and his wife, Eva, established a t-shirt printing company in Cebu City. Recognizing the potential of Cebu’s growing tourism industry, they decided to create a brand specifically tailored to this market.
In September 1992, they launched the Lokal brand, initially consigning 36 t-shirts to two hotel gift shops in Cebu City. Over time, Lokal expanded to include gift shops in select resorts and later to two major department stores.
By 1996, Lokal had opened its first retail shop, starting with a kiosk in a prominent Cebu mall. Within a few years, the brand gained popularity among both foreign and local tourists. The superior quality of its designs and shirts played a significant role in establishing its reputation.
In 2021, Lokal ventured into e-commerce by launching its online store, aiming to reach a wider market. Today, Lokal remains dedicated to delivering high-quality designs and shirts, utilizing the latest advancements in screen printing technology.
